Nature In, Nurture Out…

This week marks 12 weeks since I had surgery. Overall while healing well, some things are just taking additional time. Progress, one tortoise step at a time! Of the many things I’ve been grateful, feeling more connected within my body is topping that list. One of the concentrated progressive steps I’ve purposely been doing has been getting out of my comfort zone and into nature. Hiking? Child, please?! Why would I want to do this? And isn’t hiking just another word for elongated walking?!! Maybe yes, maybe no, but whatever this walking experience is, I’m finding I like it. Something about it calls to me.

I’ve been thinking about this word, ‘Calling.’ The church I attend uses the word calling in that it’s a responsibility one has. Easily a calling could be an adjective or noun. But I also see it as a verb, action based and oriented. The designated responsibility is to help others, and hopefully aid in the overall running of our church. Interestingly that assistance for others usually ends up helping the service/calling provider. Spirituality to me is important and I realize you can have religion without spirituality as well as spirituality without religion. At its best, like a good relationship, when the two are combined is when connection is heightened and as a result, we are nurtured.

Hurts, issues ignored and not dealt with tend to set up residence within our bodies and manifest by different aches and pains. Nurturing negativity can become normalized, but this doesn’t mean it’s the natural and healthiest way of honoring our body and overall state. Sometimes the call to be brave for our own sake and deal is mandatory and definitely not selfish.

Don’t we have a calling in our own lives? Do we need to wait for people to ask or even make it known to us things needing to be fulfilled? At times, no and at other times, absolutely, yes. We all have blinders to some aspect within our lives. You may be highly motivated in one area and destitute in others. This is why we need to have the nurturing of good people, good experiences, things good for us and around us to continually strengthen our nature. I’ve decided I’m actively cultivating loving, fun, productive, fruitful relationships. If it’s more negative, regularly lacking joy, bearing more stress and just feels bad in or around me, then, nope!

We are travelers, walking and experiencing much on this Life Journey. Let’s nurture each other when we can.
